Rose Oil and Potential Side Effects

Most people can enjoy the benefits of rose oil without side effects. It is still wise to use essential oils with care and in moderation, as with any product. Some individuals may experience minor reactions, particularly if they have sensitive skin or suffer from allergies.

Safety could be a concern in rare cases if you do not dilute the essential oil or use more than the recommended dosage. Common sense should tell you to follow the instructions provided with the product. This includes mixing rose oil with carriers such as unscented lotion when applying it to the skin.

Women who have recently given birth and are nursing should be careful when using rose oil. Do not apply it to the chest area if you breast feed your baby. The essential oil of rose should also not be used on young children.

Aromatherapists and holistic practitioners suggest that you first apply a small amount of rose oil on your skin to test for possible side effects. Your arm or wrist area, as well as your neck, are good places to dab the essential oil to check for reactions before you start to use it on a regular basis.

How to Choose Essential Oils

When you shop for essential oils, you need to know that quality can vary tremendously between different manufacturers. Since rose oil can be imported from around the globe, you really have no guarantee as to the purity of the product without doing a little research first.

There are a variety of factors that can affect the quality of rose oil. If you only look at cheap products you may end up getting a diluted product or one that was processed using plants that were diseased or saturated with pesticides.

Adulterated oils are yet another concern for consumers. While the label may say that the rose oil is pure and of high quality, it is possible that a large portion of what is in the bottle is nothing more than carrier oil with the scent of roses added to make it appealing to customers.

Try to purchase your rose oil from a reputable business. If you live near a holistic health store that has been in business for decades with regular customers, that is a good sign. If you decide to order your rose oil online, review the ratings posted by customers to gauge levels of satisfaction.

Rose oil blends well with most oils, but particularly well with clove, geranium, jasmine, and palmarosa.
