Silk (Healing Essential Oil Skin Salve)

One cream that can be a solution for multiple skin care issues? Then try this. It’s an all-purpose healing salve to help treat itchy skin, rashes, or bug bites. The coconut and jojoba oil, shea butter and the essential oils in this recipe will help moisturize and heal dry skin. You can use it as a hand lotion or apply it as an overnight foot cream.

Recipe

2 tablespoons Beeswax
2 tablespoons Coconut oil
1 tablespoon Shea butter
1/2 cup Jojoba oil
15 drops Frankincense essential oil
25 drops Lavender essential oil
15 drops Helichrysum essential oil
20 drops Tea tree essential oil

Directions 

Melt beeswax in a heat-safe glass bowl. Add coconut oil, shea butter, and jojoba oil then heat until everything is completely melted. Let it cool then add the essential oils. Pour into the container and let it cool completely before putting the lid. (Use containers that are safe for essential oils. Glass jars are our top choice.) Never use plastic kitchenwares or thin plastic containers.


Essential Oil Properties In This Recipe

Frankincense Essential Oil:

Aroma: Earthy, a slightly citrus-fruity/sweet, woody, spicy, haunting smell, a small hint camphoric, but very pleasant.

Pairs Well With: Citrus oils like bergamot, grapefruit, lime, lemon, neroli and wild orange. Piney and earthy scents such as cypress, myrrh palmarosa, pine, patchouli, sandalwood, and vetiver. Floral scents such as lavender, geranium, rose, ylang ylang, and clary sage. Spice scents such as black pepper, camphor, and cinnamon.

Properties: Use as antiseptic, astringent, carminative, cicatrizant, cytophylactic, digestive, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant, sedative, tonic, uterine, and vulnerary.

Lavender Essential Oil:

Aroma: Sweet, floral, herbaceous, light fresh and soft aroma

Pairs Well With: Bergamot, black pepper, cedarwood, chamomile, clary sage, clove, cypress, eucalyptus, frankincense, geranium, grapefruit, juniper, lemon, lemongrass, mandarin, marjoram, oakmoss, palmarosa, patchouli, peppermint, pine, ravensara, rose, rosemary, tea tree, thyme, vetiver, pine, and nutmeg.

Properties: Calming, sleep-inducing, antiseptic, analgesic, disinfectant, anti-inflammatory, anti-convulsant, anti-rheumatic, anti-spasmodic, antifungal, antiviral, bactericide, carminative, cholagogue, cicatrisant, cordial, cytophylactic, decongestant, deodorant, diuretic, emmenagogue, hypotensive, nervine, rubefacient, sedative, sudorific and vulnerary.

Helichrysum Essential Oil:

Aroma: Sweet, earthy, green floral, strongly straw-like, fruity smell, with a honey and tea undertone

Pairs Well With: Bergamot, black pepper, chamomile, citrus oils, clary sage, clove, cypress, geranium, juniper, lavender, neroli, oakmoss, oregano, palmarosa, rose, rosemary, tea tree, thyme, vetiver, and ylang ylang.

Properties: Antispasmodic, anti-coagulant, ant-iallergenic, anti-microbial, anti-haematomic, antiphlogistic, nervine, anti-inflammatory, antitussive, cicatrisant, expectorant, febrifuge, anti septic, cholagogue, emollient, mucolytic, fungicidal, hepatic, diuretic, splenic, and cytophylactic.

Tea Tree Essential Oil:

Aroma: Fresh, potent, spicy-camphoraceous, rather pungent smell and warm.

Pairs Well With: Basil, bergamot, black pepper, chamomile german, cinnamon, clary sage, clove, cypress, eucalyptus, geranium, juniper, lavender, lemon, marjoram, myrrh, nutmeg, oakmoss, oregano, peppermint, pine, ravensara, rosewood, rosemary, thyme, and ylang ylang

Properties: Antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiviral, fungicide, insecticide, antiseptic, bactericide, balsamic, cicatrisant, expectorant, fungicide, insecticide, stimulant, and sudorific.
